Telehealth and Nepali Language Consultations
Dr Pokharel provides telehealth psychiatric consultations across Australia, including for individuals residing in regional and rural areas where access to specialist care may be limited.
Consultations can be conducted via secure video, allowing patients to access care from their home or local setting.
Dr Pokharel is also able to conduct consultations in Nepali. This may be particularly helpful for individuals who are more comfortable communicating in their native language, including those with limited English proficiency. In such cases, direct communication without an interpreter may support a more accurate assessment and a more comfortable clinical interaction.
Dr Pokharel has extensive experience working with Nepali-speaking communities, including individuals from refugee backgrounds, where cultural and linguistic factors may influence how psychological distress is expressed and understood.
Telehealth consultations are typically provided as one-off assessment consultations for:
-
Diagnostic clarification
-
Second opinion
-
Treatment recommendations to assist the referring general practitioner
These consultations are commonly conducted under Medicare item numbers 291 or 293, which involve a comprehensive psychiatric assessment and provision of a written management plan for your general practitioner to continue your care locally.
Dr Pokharel does not provide ongoing telepsychiatry follow-up for these consultations.
A valid referral from a general practitioner is required.
Fees:
Usual private fees apply. Medicare rebates may be available for eligible consultations under item numbers 291 and 293, depending on individual circumstances and Medicare criteria.
This service is not an emergency or crisis service.
