My name is Anupam Pokharel. I am a consultant general adult psychiatrist and have been in practice for almost 20 years.
I have been a fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrist since 2008. I also acquired advanced training in psychotherapies form the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrist in 2011.
I have practice based at the Mitcham Private Hospital, an outer eastern Melbourne suburb, where I routinely provide assessment and treatment to a wide range of psychiatric problems. My areas of interest are Mood Disorder, Anxiety Disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I provide pharmacotherapy, cognitive behavioural therapy and EMDR therapy. I have a public hospital appointment at Monash Health as a consultant psychiatrist.
I completed the core and psychiatry modules of Impairment assessment Training in 2012, using the American Medical Association Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment (Fourth Edition) and prescribed methods. I have also been conducting Independent Medical Examinations since 2013.
I created psychmedic.com.au to provide mental health assessment and treatment recommendations to individuals in regional and rural areas, specifically for Nepalese language speaking refugee population resettled in various regional areas. Telehealth could be of assistance to general practitioners seeking psychiatric assessment and treatment recommendations patient population from this background. Telehealth can also be useful to those who would prefer to make use of the privacy, security and convenience of a telehealth consultation. While this may not be the preferred modality of psychiatric consultation to many, telehealth can be an alternative when patients are not able to attend the clinic for face to face due to one or another reason, and has been more relevant in COVID 19 related restrictions.
